The Review:
Freeway’s latest effort reminds me of the good and bad from the former Roc-A-Fella star. Free’s first indy release offers up fans of gritty east coast hip hop hope. Tracks like “Hands Up” pick up right where the first Philadelphia Freeway album left off. While some may grow tired of the same redundant content that Free raps about(cocaine/murder/sex), Free’s strong flow and trademark delivery keeps you locked in.
The 13 songs found on Philadelphia Freeway 2 range from chill(“It’s A Good Day”), to forgettable(“Streets Won’t Miss Em”), to pure heat(Murder Muzic). The consistency found on his prior albums though are missing, which makes this latest release lacking in key area.
Of all the artists that once held down State Property, it seemed Freeway had the most promise to follow the footsteps of big brother Beanie Siegal and gain mass appeal. The first Philadelphia Freeway set the bar high for Freeway, as he went gold and gained criticial acclaim from the masses. The sophomore slump set in though on Free At Last though, and his career went into a tailspin. Hopefully, with the release of this third album, things can begin to go back in the right direction for one of Philly’s finest.
