It’s been a long time since the group formerly known as the LOX have come together to record an album. Almost nine years after the release of “We Are The Streets” dropped, Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek get back together, along with some of their other D-Block affiliates to drop No Security. The album, being released through E1 Music, contains a hour of that gritty, New York street hop that is getting embraced once again by the masses in this new “Death of Autotunes” era.

The album starts off with some heat on So Much Trouble, in which Beanie Sigel stops in to deliver a sick 16. Throughout the rest of the album you have some tracks that show D-Block tried to embrace new soounds of their music, like Show Em, which features OJ Da Juiceman. To me though, OJ and D-Block just don’t mix. The club friendly Get Ya Bounce On featuring Webstar is another track that shows the groups range, but feels like they are out of their lane. The Vinny Idol-produced “From The Block” is one of the shining gems on the album, as Bully, T.Y, and Tommy Star get some much deserved shine.

Styles P outshines both Jada and Sheek throughout much of this album, including on “Brother’s Keeper”, which features all 3 original LOX members. The Pete Rock-produced “Like That Y’all remix” is already one of my favorite tracks to drop this year, as the 16 minute
cypha between D Block members flows over various beats and is a lyrical excercise many groups wouldn’t dare to put on their mixtape.

From start to finish, No Security answers the question if D-Block can drop a hot album without many guest spots or major label backing. I just hope we don’t have to wait another 9 years for another album.

The Grade – B
